SAIL Amsterdam Foundation
The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation is responsible for the core-business of SAIL: the presence of international Tall Ships and the sailing legacy and its support.
The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation sets the following goals:
- Promoting the city and port of Amsterdam, the ‘Noordzeekanaal’-area and the districts within the SAIL area.
- To promote the interest in classic sailing vessels, round and flat boats, training ships and more of that sort.
- To get young adults excited about sailing at sea and inland waterways and to get them excited about Dutch sailing and its history.
The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation wants to reach the goals stated above by organising SAIL Amsterdam. In addition, the foundation is involved with youth and sailing, seafaring aboard vessels through internships and organising small nautical events.
The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation is working on their ambitions to guarantee more continuity and an international future. This all happens under the command of Mitra van Raalten.
History of the SAIL Amsterdam foundation
After the big success of the first edition of SAIL in 1975, there had to be another edition. 1980 would be the next year for SAIL to flourish. Three years before that, in 1977, the ‘Stichting SAIL Amsterdam (SSA)’ (SAIL Amsterdam Foundation) was founded to make sure that the next edition of SAIL Amsterdam would be a success. The foundation has from that point onwards been responsible for all successful editions of SAIL. For the ninth edition in 2015, the foundation started working together with ACE Concepts & Events and ‘Havenbedrijf Amsterdam’. Together they formed SAIL Event Partners. Within SAIL Event Partners, The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation is responsible for the goals stated above.
