Iskra

The ORP Iskra was designed and built at the Lenin shipyard of Gdansk. The designer is M. Sc. Zygmunt Choren. The keel was laid on November 11, 1981 and the launch took place on March 6, 1982. Supervision of the construction and equipment of the ship was held by the Reserve Officers Club at the Lenin shipyard of Gdansk. She is built as a barque.

Since 1987, she has participated in international sailing events and has often been part of events such as SAIL in Amsterdam, Sail Den Helder and DelfSail. In 1995 she participated in ‘Sail Indonesia’ or in Malay called ‘Arung Samudera’. Then in 1996 she completed her first journey around the world!

TThe letters ORP are a kind of equivalent of HMS, but obviously have a different meaning. They stand for Operational Ship of the Republic of Poland. Sisters of the Iskra are also the Polish ‘Pogoria’ and the Bulgarian ‘Kaliakra’. The Iskra is 49 meters long and extends 4 meters deep!
