Young Endeavour

Seize the day

Young Endeavour

The arrival of this ship is a first for SAIL in Amsterdam and for the Netherlands! Never before were we welcoming her in our country. The ship’s motto is ‘Carpe Diem’, ‘Seize the Day’! It was built in England and launched in 1987.

In 1988 she was donated by England to Australia, as a special gift on the occasion of 200 years of colonization of Australia. Her home port is Sydney. Although it sails under the flag of the Royal Australian Navy, only a small part of the crew (10 people) belong to the RAN. The ship serves primarily to introduce civilian youngsters (30 per trip) to the sea. But also to experience sail training and character formation. Between 1988 and mid-2011, more than 11,000 young people have sailed on multi-day trips, while another 11,000 young people with physical disabilities have participated in day trips.
