United by Waves: Memorandum of Understanding met Oman Sail 🌍

During SAIL 2025, the future relevance of the event was also in focus. For this reason, several (international) delegations from the United States, France, Germany, and Oman were present to witness and experience the unique spirit of SAIL 2025 – international togetherness, United by Waves.

On Saturday, 23 August, Oman Sail and the SAIL Amsterdam Foundation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on board the Shabab Oman II during SAIL 2025! This MOU strengthens the 400-year maritime bond between Oman and the Netherlands and marks the beginning of a new collaboration for SAIL Muscat 2027. Just like in Amsterdam, SAIL Muscat will bring people and cultures together, offering a stage for international encounters, maritime history, and nautical innovations. Earlier this year, the 400-year maritime ties were already celebrated with a state visit of the Sultan of Oman to the Netherlands.

In the presence of H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Salem bin Hamad Al Harthi (Ambassador of Oman to the Netherlands), Dr. Khamis Salim Al Jabri (CEO Oman Sail), Mitra van Raalten (Director SAIL Amsterdam), and Arie Jan de Waard (Chairman SAIL Amsterdam Foundation), the partnership was officially confirmed during SAIL 2025. The SAIL Amsterdam Foundation will support SAIL Muscat with knowledge, expertise, and its international sailing network.

With SAIL 2025, we celebrated 50 years of SAIL, 10 editions, and 750 years of Amsterdam. Now we look ahead: to a future where SAIL continues to connect people beyond the Netherlands: United by Waves!
