Sailing Catamaran Beatrix, Freedom on the Water for Everyone

Beatrix is a sailing catamaran specially designed for people with physical and/or intellectual disabilities. The ship sails from the Frisian village of Elahuizen and offers sailing holidays, group trips, and day excursions across the beautiful Frisian lakes.

Independence and togetherness are central on board. Participants help with hoisting the sails, coiling ropes, and steering. Thanks to a modern hydraulic steering system, guests can even operate the ship from a wheelchair.

The Beatrix is the national gift from the Princess Beatrix Fund on the occasion of Queen Beatrix’s 25th anniversary on the throne. During SAIL 2005, the ship was officially christened by her.

With the Beatrix, people experience that boundaries on the water can fade and possibilities can grow.
