Story

ARM Cuauhtémoc

Ambassador and Knight of the Seas

The ARM Cuauhtémoc stands as one of the most iconic ships of the Mexican Navy, a symbol of the country’s maritime tradition, discipline, and international diplomacy. Since 1982, this majestic sailing vessel has been an integral part of the training of naval cadets at the Heroic Naval Military School, fulfilling a mission not only of education but also of cultural exchange. Known as the "Ambassador and Knight of the Seas," the Cuauhtémoc represents the spirit of Mexico and its deep-rooted maritime heritage, connecting the nation to the world through its trans-Atlantic and trans-Pacific voyages.

Over the past 40 years, the Cuauhtémoc has sailed more than 800,000 nautical miles, the equivalent of 38 full circumnavigations of the Earth. It has visited 217 ports in 63 countries, serving as an ambassador of Mexico, carrying a message of peace and goodwill wherever it sails. More than just a vessel, it is a bridge between cultures, sharing the traditions of Mexico’s naval history with the world.

Since 2011, the Cuauhtémoc has included female cadets among its crew, marking a significant step toward greater inclusivity within the Mexican Navy. This milestone reflects a commitment to progress while honoring the ship’s tradition of excellence.

With major coastlines on both the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, Mexico has a strong maritime identity, and the Cuauhtémoc embodies this by taking part in prestigious international events such as The Tall Ships Races, Fleet Week in New York, and the Fêtes Maritimes of Brest. The ship has earned numerous accolades, including the Boston Teapot Trophy, a testament to the skill and discipline of its crew.

For over four decades, the Cuauhtémoc has sailed as a proud representative of Mexico, carrying its heritage across the seas and fostering connections that go beyond borders.
