Sustainability
The largest event in the Netherlands and the largest freely accessible event in Europe: SAIL serves as a model! It also provides the opportunity to showcase and test various sustainable initiatives at a large event. The goal is to make SAIL 2025 as sustainable as possible. Therefore, concrete goals are being set in six areas: Waste, Water, Food, Mobility, Energy, Digital Safety. Together with the municipality and our partners, we are looking for sustainable pioneers: do you have a concrete and feasible idea? Then get in touch!
Projects
SAIL Lab
In the SAIL Lab, a new form of education called the Living Lab is used to investigate and test partners' questions and issues within society. Here, young people from various educational levels and disciplines collaborate to conduct interdisciplinary and multilevel research. This gives students the opportunity to develop teamwork and professional relationship skills, while the project can be practically tested within the community. By working together with other educational programs, students experience how to collaborate on social issues and learn to work in an intercultural context. This helps them develop skills that enable them to bring together different parties to solve societal problems.
In the SAIL Lab, young people have the chance to discover new future pathways that they can take into their professional careers. In their research within the SAIL Lab, students use the "Positive Provocations" research method, which is tested, among others, by Inholland University of Applied Sciences through the SAIL Lab.
SAIL Hero
#SAILHero is developed to stimulate and facilitate the personal development of young people. Youngsters from various backgrounds and cultures are challenged to develop themselves through a voyage at sea on one of the Dutch Tall Ships. Currently, dozens of young people sail every year as trainees through the SAIL community. This has a tremendous positive impact on their personal development. Therefore, the SAIL Amsterdam Foundation aims to inspire, facilitate, and guide another 350 young people in this development from 2022 to 2025 through the #SAILHero project.
#SAILHero aims to reach a diverse group of young people with varied socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. The young people in the target group of this project do not always have the same needs, so two different programs have been developed: the "Er-Vaar" program and the "SDG" program. These two programs aim to support young people at an appropriate level in their development and create future perspectives by connecting them with society.
The #SAILHero project is an initiative of the SAIL Amsterdam Foundation. The foundation's vision is to give young people a chance to make an essential and relevant step in their lives. Our ambition is that every young person who completes the program becomes a Hero. We see it as our responsibility (social involvement and cohesion) to offer young people this opportunity. The platform, community, and network of SAIL will be activated to help and facilitate these young people.
